<strong>Sepulveda</strong> <strong>Dam</strong> <strong>Basin</strong><strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> and Environmental AssessmentMonitoring parking capacity and if necessary, posting signs when parking lots are full.Woodley Park It is recommended that this area be targeted for replacement of non- native trees andshrubs with native trees and shrubs over time.Cricket Fields These are long-established uses at the <strong>Basin</strong> and attract a very diverse user group.It is recommended that these continue to operate and maintained.The Japanese Garden at the Donald C. Tillman Water Reclamation <strong>Plan</strong>t This garden has a highesthetic value. A strong docent and support group coupled with a nominal user fee allows thegarden maintained at its current level. It is recommended that the cultural landscapes bemaintained.<strong>Sepulveda</strong> Garden Center The City has indicated a desire to add an additional restroom facilityin the area south of Magnolia Boulevard. It is recommended that the area northwest of thecurrent community garden center be considered for expansion of the garden center.<strong>Sepulveda</strong> <strong>Basin</strong> Off-leash Dog Park As one of the more popular sites at the <strong>Basin</strong>, it isrecommended that improvements include: providing for chairs and/or picnic tables for users ofthe park. With its location adjacent to the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> River (River) which does not currentlymeet bacteria water quality standards, it is recommended that Best Management Practices(BMPs) such as vegetated swales be installed to ensure that no animal waste is entering the Riverand degrading the water quality.Archery Range This area is recommended for additional maintenance, specifically to restroomfacilities.Model Airplane Field There is a very strong, active and vocal user group that self-polices itsactivities and helps maintain the site. There are no recommendations at this time.ONEgeneration S. Mark Taper Intergenerational Center This facility has evolved from itsoriginal use as a teen center into one that accommodates many generations and is a “coolingcenter” for those in the San Fernando Valley without air conditioning. While an unusual use at aCorps facility, it serves a diverse population. It is recommended that the use and maintenance ofthe facility be reviewed periodically to ensure that it is still meeting the needs of the community.6.2.6 Recommended Areas Applicable to Multiple Resource Management - VegetativeManagementApproximately 218 acres is recommended for classification as Vegetative Management. TheVegetative Management classification is less restrictive than the Environmentally Sensitive landuse classification, but recognized as having environmental value for the vegetation provided.These areas may include non-native plants and/or be subject to disturbance from time to time.Because of the proximity to the model airplane field, the area between Woodley Creek andWoodley Avenue is subject to trampling when fliers retrieve downed planes and mayburn if a plane crashes and catches on fire. The areas recommended for this land useclassification and shown on Map 23 are:Land Use Classification and Resource <strong>Plan</strong> Recommendations 6-6
