05 Locks and alarmLocking and unlocking– Press the LOCK button again to arm thealarm and lock the tailgate.NOTEIf the LOCK button is used to unlock thetailgate without it being opened then it is relockedautomatically after approx. 2 minutes.Deadlocks 1The car has a special deadlock function,which means that the doors cannot beopened from the inside if they are locked.Deadlocks can only be activated from theoutside by the driver’s door being lockedwith the key or remote control. All doors mustbe closed before deadlocks can be activated.Once activated, the doors cannot beopened from the inside. The car can only beunlocked from the outside via the driver’sdoor or by using the remote control.Deadlocks are engaged after a 25 seconddelay after the doors have been closed.1 Certain countriesTemporary deactivation of thedeadlocks and any alarm detectorsIf others prefer to remain seated in the carwith the doors locked from the outside, e.g.during transport by ferry, it is possible to deactivatethe deadlocks.– Insert the key into the ignition switch, turnit to position II and then back to position Ior 0.– Press the button (see illustration).If the car is equipped with an alarm, movementand tilt detectors are also deactivated.See page 109.The light in the button illuminates until the caris locked with the key or the remote control.A message remains on the display as long asthe key remains in the ignition switch. Thedetectors are reactivated and deadlocks reengagedthe next time the ignition isswitched on.WARNINGDo not allow anyone to remain in the carwithout first deactivating the deadlocks.05105
