11 SpecificationsEngine oilAdverse driving conditionsViscosity chartCheck the oil level more frequently for longjourneys:• towing a caravan or trailer• in mountainous regions• at high speeds• in temperatures colder than –30 °C orhotter than +40 °C.This can produce abnormally high oil temperatureor oil consumption.Also check the oil level more often if thecar is often driven short distances (less than10 km) when temperatures are low(below +5 °C).Choose a fully synthetic engine oil for adversedriving conditions. It provides extraprotection for the engine.<strong>Volvo</strong> recommends oil products.IMPORTANTIn order to fulfil the requirements for the engine’sservice intervals all engines are filledwith a specially adapted synthetic engine oilat the factory. The choice of oil has beenmade very carefully with regard to servicelife, starting characteristics, fuel consumptionand environmental impact. An approvedengine oil must be used in order thatthe recommended service intervals can beapplied. Only use a prescribed grade of oil(see the engine compartment decal) forboth filling and oil change, otherwise youwill risk affecting service life, starting characteristics,fuel consumption and environmentalimpact. <strong>Volvo</strong> Car Corporationdisclaims all warranty liability if engine oil ofthe prescribed grade and viscosity is notused.11245
