09 Maintenance and service09Replacing bulbsGeneralAll bulb specifications are given on page 252.The following list contains bulbs and pointsourcelamps that are specialised or unsuitablefor changing except at a workshop:• General interior lighting in the roof• Reading lamps and glovebox lighting• Indicator, door mirror and approachlighting• High-level brake light• Active Bi-Xenon and Bi-XenonheadlampsWARNINGOn cars with Bi-Xenon headlamps, Xenonlamp replacement must be carried out by anauthorised <strong>Volvo</strong> workshop. The headlampsmust be handled with extreme care due tothe high-voltage unit in the Xenon lamp.IMPORTANTNever touch the bulbs’ glass with your fingers.Grease and oils from your fingers arevaporised by the heat, coating and damagingthe reflector.Changing front bulbsThe entire lamp insert must first be removedwhen replacing dipped beam, main beamand parking lamp bulbs. To replace one ofthese bulbs, do the following and then consultthe instructions for the specific lamp.Removing the lamp housing:– Switch off all lights and turn ignition key toposition 0.– Open the bonnet.– Release the insert by pulling up the twolock pins holding it in place.– Lift the insert straight out.– Unplug the connector by first pressing inthe catch from underneath and then pullingit up a bit from above.IMPORTANTDo not pull the electrical cable, only theconnector– Lift out the entire headlamp insert andplace it on a soft surface so as not todamage the lens.Refit the headlamp insert in reverse order.Check that the lock pins are correctlysituated.196
