06 Starting and drivingParking assistance (option)General 1Parking assistance front and rear.Parking assistance is used as an aid to parking.A signal indicates the distance to a detectedobject.FunctionThe system is activated automatically whenthe car is started and the text message ParkAssist active, Exit to deactivate is shown onthe audio system display.Parking assistance is active at speeds below15 km/h. The system is deactivated at higherspeeds. The system is reactivated when thespeed falls below 10 km/h again.The frequency of the signal increases as youcome closer to an object in front of or behindthe car. If the volume of another soundsource from the audio system is high, this isautomatically muted.The tone becomes constant at a distance ofabout 30 cm. If there are objects within thisdistance behind or in front of the car, the signalalternates between left and right-handspeakers.towbar or similar. Otherwise the trailer or bikecarrier would trigger the sensors.Rear parking assistance is deactivated automaticallywhen towing a trailer if a <strong>Volvo</strong> genuinetrailer cable is used.Front parking assistance 2The distance covered to the front of the car isabout 0.8 metres. The signal comes from thefront loudspeakers.Front parking assistance cannot be combinedwith extra lights because the sensorsare affected by the extra lights.Fault indicatorIf the information symbol illuminateswith constant glow and PARK AS-SIST SERVICE REQUIRED is shownon the information display thenparking assistance is disengaged.06WARNINGParking assistance does not relinquish thedriver’s own responsibility during parking.The sensors have blind spots where objectscannot be detected. Be aware of childrenand animals near the car.1 Depending on the market, the Parking assistancesystem may be either standard, an optionor an accessory.Rear parking assistanceThe distance covered to the rear of the car isabout 1.5 m. Rear parking assistance is activatedwhen reverse gear is engaged. If thesystem is switched off, the audio system displayshows the text Park Assist deactivatedEnter to activate as soon as reverse gear isengaged. The signal comes from the rearloudspeakers.The system must be deactivated when reversingwith a trailer, or bike carrier on theWARNINGSome sources may deceive the system withfalse signals. Examples of such sources includehorns, wet tyres on asphalt, pneumaticbrakes and motorcycle exhaust pipes. Iceand snow covering the sensors may alsocause false warning signals.2 Provided that the parking assistance ismounted both front and rear.127
