06 Starting and drivingAutomatic gearboxGear selector inhibitorThe gear selector can always be moved freelybetween N and D. Other positions arelocked with a catch that is released with theinhibitor button on the gear selector.With one press on the inhibitor button youcan move the lever forwards or backwardsbetween the gear positions, N, R and P.<strong>Manual</strong> positionsTo move from the automatic drivingposition D to a manual position, move thegear selector to position M. To go fromposition M to the automatic drivingposition D, move the selector to position D.On the 5-speed automatic gearbox, gears 3,4 and 5 1 have the Lock-up function (lockedgears), which provides better engine brakingand lower fuel consumption.While drivingThe manual gearshift mode can be selectedat any time while driving. The engaged gearis locked until you choose another gear.If the gear selector is moved to – (minus) thecar changes down a gear and engine brakesat the same time as the accelerator pedal isreleased. If the gear selector is moved to+ (plus) the car changes up a gear.Third gear is the highest gear that can beused when starting.W – WinterThe W button is used to activateand deactivate thewinter program W. Displayof the W symbol in thecombined instrument panelindicates that the winterprogram is active.The winter programme starts the gearbox in3rd gear to make it easier to pull off on slipperyroads. When the programme is engaged,lower gears are activated only bykick-down.The W program can be selected regardlessof the position of the gear selector, but isonly operational when the selector is inposition D.061 2nd and 6th gear also have lock-up on the 6-speed automatic gearbox.121
