01 SafetyAirbag system 01Warning symbol in combinedinstrument panelThe airbag system 1 is continually monitoredby the system control module. The warningsymbol in the combined instrument panel illuminateswhen the ignition key is turned toposition I, II or III. The symbol goes out afterapprox. seven seconds provided the airbagsystem 1 is fault-free.As well as the warning symbol,a message may appearon the information display inappropriate cases. If thewarning symbol malfunctions,the warning triangle illuminatesand the messageSRS AIRBAG SERVICE UR-GENT appears in the informationdisplay. Contact anauthorised <strong>Volvo</strong> workshop urgently.WARNINGIf the warning symbol for the Airbag systemremains on or illuminates while driving, itmeans that the Airbag system is not functioningfully. The symbol can indicate a faultin the seatbelt tensioner system, SIPS, theSRS system or the IC system. Contact anauthorised <strong>Volvo</strong> workshop immediately.1 Includes SRS and seatbelt tensioner, SIPSand IC.15
01 Safety01Airbags (SRS)Airbag (SRS) on the driver’s sidePassenger airbag (SRS)WARNINGTo minimise the risk of injury if the airbagdeploys, passengers must sit as upright aspossible with their feet on the floor andbacks against the backrest. Seatbelts mustbe secured.The car has an SRS airbag (SupplementalRestraint System) in the steering wheel tosupplement the protection afforded by theseatbelt. This airbag is fitted into the centreof the steering wheel. The steering wheel ismarked SRS AIRBAG.WARNINGThe seatbelts and airbags interact. If a seatbeltis not used or is used incorrectly, thismay diminish the protection provided by theairbag in the event of a collision.The car has an SRS airbag (Supplemental RestraintSystem) to supplement the protectionafforded by the seatbelt. The passenger airbag1 is fitted behind a panel above the glovebox.This panel is marked SRS AIRBAG.1 Not all cars have a passenger airbag (SRS).This can be unselected when the car is ordered.WARNINGNever place a child in a child seat or on abooster cushion in the front seat if the airbag(SRS) is activated. 1Never allow a child to stand or sit in front ofthe front passenger seat. No one shorterthan 140 cm should sit in the front passengerseat if the airbag (SRS) is activated.Failure to follow the advice given above canendanger the life of the child.1 For information on activated/deactivated airbag(SRS) see page 19.16
