06 Starting and drivingLoadingLoad carrier cover• Remember that the car’s centre of gravityand driving characteristics change if youhave a load on the roof.• Keep in mind that the car’s wind resistanceand fuel consumption increase inproportion to the size of the load.• Drive gently. Avoid quick accelerations,heavy braking and taking curves hard.WARNINGLoad no more than 100 kg on the roof, inclusiveof the load carriers or space box.The car’s centre of gravity and driving characteristicsare altered by roof loads.Use the end of the torque wrench (see illustration)or the ignition key to loosen or securethe cover. Rotate ¼ turn.Load carriers• To avoid damaging your car and toachieve the best level of safety whendriving, we recommend that you only useload carriers that <strong>Volvo</strong> has specially designedfor your car.• Check periodically that the load carriersand load are properly secured. Lash theload securely with retaining straps.• Distribute the load evenly over the loadcarriers. Do not load lopsidedly. Place theheaviest items at the bottom.06145
