03 Climate controlGeneral information on climate control03Air conditioningThe climate control system cools or heats, and dehumidifies the air entering the passengercompartment. The car is equipped withelectronic climate control (ECC).NOTEThe air conditioning can be switched off, butto ensure the best possible air in the passengercompartment and prevent the windowsfrom misting, it should always be on.Misting windowsReduce the problem of windows misting upon the inside by cleaning the windows. Use aregular window cleaner.Particle filterMake sure that the multifilter/particle filter isreplaced regularly. Consult an authorisedVolvo workshop.Ice and snowRemove ice and snow from the climate controlsystem air intake (the grille between thebonnet and the windscreen).Fault tracing and repairEntrust fault tracing and repair of the climatecontrol system to an authorised Volvo workshoponly.RefrigerantThe air conditioning system contains R134arefrigerant. This refrigerant contains no chlorine, which means that it is harmless to theozone layer. The system must only becharged with R134a refrigerant. Have an authorisedVolvo workshop carry out this work.Ventilation fan functionWhen the engine is off (and if the ignition keyis in position I or II), the ventilation fan is automaticallyswitched off. This is to preventthe battery from becoming discharged. To activate the ventilation fan, turn the fancontrol and set the desired speed.ECC (option)Actual temperatureThe temperature you select corresponds tothe physical experience with reference tofactors such as air speed, humidity and solarradiation in and around the car.Sensor location• The sun sensor is on the top side of thedashboard.• The temperature sensor for the passengercompartment is behind the climate controlpanel.NOTEDo not cover or block the sensors withclothing or other objects.Side windows and sunroofTo ensure that the air conditioning works satisfactorily, the side windows, and sunroof ifappropriate, should be closed.AccelerationThe air conditioning system switches offtemporarily at full acceleration. You may feela temporary rise in temperature.CondensationIn warm weather, condensation from the airconditioning system may drip under the car. This is normal.Fuel economyWith ECC, the air conditioning system is controlledautomatically and is used just enoughto cool the passenger compartment and toadequately dehumidify the incoming air. Thisprovides better fuel economy compared toconventional systems where the air conditioningcools the air to just above freezingpoint.70
