CHAPTER 8POLICE RECRUITMENT AND TRAININGState Wise <strong>Data</strong> On :• Police Personnel Recruited• Police Personnel Trained• Information on IPS OfficersThis chapter depicts the information /dataon State/UT in respect of number of policepersonnel (Constables, S.Is, Sergeants, ASIs,etc.) recruited during 2010; number of newlyrecruited police personnel trained and numberof police personnel given in-service trainingduring 2010.Police Personnel RecruitedA total of 99,089 police constables wererecruited fresh during 2010 as against 1,09,910in 2009 in the country. At state level themaximum of 16,980 recruitments were madein Maharashtra State followed by 13,448 inAndhra Pradesh and 12,764 in Delhi.The number of Sub. Inspectors (SIs) /Assistant Sub. Inspectors (ASIs) recruited during2010 were 9,404 whereas this figure was 3,409during 2009. At state level the maximum of3,022 SIs / ASIs were recruited in Maharashtrafollowed by 2,091 in Bihar and 1,065 in TamilNadu.Details are given in Table – 8.1. SsP, 8,376 SIs/ ASIs / Sargents, and 96,090Constables of police force were trained duringthe year 2010.At state level the maximum of 84 Dy.SPsof J&K Police, followed by 78 Dy.SPs ofMaharashtra and 27 of Assam got trainingduring 2010 while 2,091 SIs/ASIs from BiharPolice Force 1,163 from Orissa and 1,159 fromMaharashtra Police were trained during thisperiod. The maximum of 12,351 constablesof Andhra Pradesh Police Force, 11,863 fromMaharashtra and 8,635 from Tamil Nadui Policewere trained during the year 2009. Details aregiven in Table – 8.2. (Page No. 105)Police in-service trainingA total of 1,00,189 police personnel fromStates/UTs police forces were given in-servicetraining during the year 2010 in the country.Of these, 1,040 IPS, 2,067 Dy.SsP, 18,464 SIs/Sergeants/ASIs and 78,618 constables weregiven in-service training during 2010. (Page No. 106)At state level the maximum of 137 IPSOfficers from Madhya Pradesh followed by124 from Gujarat and 110 from Karnataka(including some officers having undergonetraining more than once), were given inservicetraining during 2010. During this periodRajasthan Police has given in-service trainingto 364 Dy.SsP followed by 239 in Karnatakaand 238 in J&K. At SIs/Sergeants/ASIs levelthe highest of 2,739 police personnel fromRajasthan, 1,713 from Kerala and 1,651 fromHaryana were given in-service training during2010.
