The required <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> hasbeen received from a number of States/UTsand the same has been <strong>in</strong>dicated accord<strong>in</strong>gly.Sancti<strong>on</strong>ed strengthAnalysis of the data <strong>on</strong> sancti<strong>on</strong>edstrength of State <strong>Police</strong> Forces shows that as <strong>on</strong>01.01.2011 out of 20.64 lakhs (2.064 milli<strong>on</strong>s)of total police force <strong>in</strong> the entire country 16.40lakhs (1.640 milli<strong>on</strong>s) was Civil <strong>Police</strong> <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>gDistrict Armed <strong>Police</strong> and the rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g 4.24lakhs (0.424 milli<strong>on</strong>) was State Armed <strong>Police</strong>.Strength of Civil <strong>Police</strong> was highest <strong>in</strong> UttarPradesh (3,32,046), followed by Maharashtra(13,8,725) and Andhra Pradesh (1,13,986).The strength of Armed <strong>Police</strong> wasmaximum <strong>in</strong> Uttar Pradesh (36,214) followedby Assam (30,195) and J&K (28,253) State-wisedetails are given <strong>in</strong> Table – 3.1.
