CHAPTER 2POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICESState Wise <strong>Data</strong> on:• Police Zones/Ranges & Districts• Police Sub-Division/Circles• Sanctioned and Actual Police Stations(Rural & Urban)• Sanctioned and Actual Police Posts(Rural & Urban)• Police Stations for special purposes• Armed Police Battalions• Women Police Stations• Cities with Police CommissioneratesThis chapter provides a glimpse ofstate-wise data as on 1.1.2011, on field leveladministrative Police Units namely PoliceZones, Police Ranges, Police Districts, PoliceSub-Division/Circles, Police Stations (Rural& Urban), Police Posts (Rural & Urban),Police Stations for special purposes, Numberof Armed Police Battalions; Women PoliceStations and their locations and Cities withPolice Commissioner System.An analysis of data on police administrativeoffices shows that the whole of India is dividedinto 84 Police Zones, 177 Police Rangescovering 692 Police Districts. There were atotal of 13,984 Police Stations in the countryas on 01.01.2011. The state of Andhra Pradeshhad maximum 1679 Police Stations followedby 1504 in Uttar Pradesh and minimum 2 inUnion Territory of D&N Haveli & 5 in Damanand Diu. Details are given in Table – 2.1. (PageNo. 21)Police StationsOut of a total of 13,984 Sanctioned PoliceStations, as many as 9,525 (68.11%) werelocated in rural area while a total of 4,038(28.88%) were in urban area and the remaining421 (3.01%) were the Government RailwayPolice Stations.For the second time <strong>Data</strong> on existing PoliceStations has been collected & compiled. Theinformation has been received from all states/UTs. Details are given in Table – 2.2. (Page No.22)Police-PostsLike existing Police Stations <strong>Data</strong> onexisting Police Posts has also been collected &compiled for the second time.
