There were atotal of 13,984 <strong>Police</strong> Stati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>in</strong> the countryas <strong>on</strong> 01.01.2011. The state of Andhra Pradeshhad maximum 1679 <strong>Police</strong> Stati<strong>on</strong>s followedby 1504 <strong>in</strong> Uttar Pradesh and m<strong>in</strong>imum 2 <strong>in</strong>Uni<strong>on</strong> Territory of D&N Haveli & 5 <strong>in</strong> Damanand Diu. Details are given <strong>in</strong> Table – 2.1. (PageNo. 21)<strong>Police</strong> Stati<strong>on</strong>sOut of a total of 13,984 Sancti<strong>on</strong>ed <strong>Police</strong>Stati<strong>on</strong>s, as many as 9,525 (68.11%) werelocated <strong>in</strong> rural area while a total of 4,038(28.88%) were <strong>in</strong> urban area and the rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g421 (3.01%) were the Government Railway<strong>Police</strong> Stati<strong>on</strong>s.For the sec<strong>on</strong>d time <str<strong>on</strong>g>Data</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> exist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Police</strong>Stati<strong>on</strong>s has been collected & compiled. The<strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> has been received from all states/UTs. Details are given <strong>in</strong> Table – 2.2. (Page No.22)<strong>Police</strong>-PostsLike exist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Police</strong> Stati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>Data</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>exist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Police</strong> Posts has also been collected &compiled for the sec<strong>on</strong>d time. Of the total of7,742 Sancti<strong>on</strong>ed <strong>Police</strong> Posts <strong>in</strong> the country as<strong>on</strong> 01.01.2011, there were 5205 <strong>Police</strong> Posts <strong>in</strong>rural area while 2537 <strong>Police</strong> Posts were located<strong>in</strong> urban area have not been received from allthe these states/UTs.<str<strong>on</strong>g>Data</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> actual rural & urban <strong>Police</strong> Postshas been received from all the States/UTs.Details are given <strong>in</strong> Table 2.3 (Page No. 23)From Table AYear 2000 2010 % age<strong>in</strong>creaseTotal <strong>Police</strong> Stati<strong>on</strong>s 12,248 13,984 14.17Total <strong>Police</strong>-posts 6,980 7,742 10.92The existence of <strong>Police</strong> Adm<strong>in</strong>istrativeoffices like Z<strong>on</strong>es, Ranges, Sub-Divisi<strong>on</strong>s& Circles are not uniform <strong>in</strong> all the States.Therefore, some of the States have all theabove offices while <strong>in</strong> others states those wereeither not set up or have s<strong>in</strong>ce been abolished.Therefore, some variati<strong>on</strong> may be noticedas compared to the <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> given <strong>in</strong> theprevious years of this document.19
