Online and job-embedded professional developmentDifferentiated Instruction:Planning Instruction to Meet the Needs of All StudentsDifferentiated Instruction, or DI, has become an important component to teacher professional development. TheCommon Core State Standards cite DI as a way to ensure that all students are given every opportunity to meet theiroverarching achievement goals. The Common Core of Teaching, Connecticut’s approved waiver from the No ChildLeft Behind Act, and standards from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)—all includeDI as a core tenet of teacher practice. In addition, the NEASC requirement to limit or eliminate leveled classes makesdifferentiation in high classes more important than ever.
