International GEO Workshop on <strong>SAR</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Support</strong> <strong>Agricultural</strong> Moni<strong>to</strong>ring 6. Actions & Next Steps The following suggestions for actions and next steps were emphasized by the GEO AgCoP. The Workshop Technical Committee (with Co-Chairs Heather McNairn and Jai Singh Parihar) should generate the Meeting Report, including an Executive Summary and Recommendations. The presentations from this workshop should be placed on-line. The Canadian Journal of Remote Sensing will publish a Special Issue on <strong>Agricultural</strong> Moni<strong>to</strong>ring using <strong>SAR</strong>. Papers are solicited from applications of <strong>SAR</strong> and <strong>SAR</strong>/optical integration on the following <strong>to</strong>pics: • land cover and land use mapping and moni<strong>to</strong>ring • crop identification and area estimation • crop condition, productivity, and yield estimation • estimation of crop biophysical properties • land management mapping and moni<strong>to</strong>ring • mapping of soil properties • soil moisture estimation. The submission deadline is 31 January 2010. For submission instructions, see http://pubservices.nrc-cnrc.ca/clients/pdfs/cjrs_instruct_e.pdf The GEO Secretariat (with Jinlong Fan as the Agriculture Societal Benefit Area (SBA) point of contact) should raise the visibility of food security and Agriculture as a critical SBA and help <strong>to</strong> identify funds for capacity building. This should be a priority for GEO. This will be discussed at the <strong>Agricultural</strong> Outreach Focus at the GEO Ministerial meeting in Beijing in 2010. The GEO Ag 0703 Task (with Jai Singh Parihar as Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>r) should: • Explore on line <strong>SAR</strong> tu<strong>to</strong>rials • Populate the CoP Web Site with <strong>SAR</strong> links, Tools and Methods • Complete the Best Practices Document. The Canadian GEO Secretariat and AAFC should pursue the JECAM Coordination role and also pursue on-line tu<strong>to</strong>rials. A Special Issue on Education and Training in Remote Sensing is in preparation by Brigitte Leblon at the Unversity of New Brunswick, and she invited people <strong>to</strong> send her titles of papers for this issue. 33
