Student Feedback & Leadership9.6 Critical Success FactorsWhat were the contributors to success?Factors that contributed to success of the project are as follows:––Commitment of staff to improving the School's learning <strong>and</strong> teaching.––Availability of financial resources to undertake School upgradingof selected learning spaces in the School.––The assistance from sources external to the School, VET Sector,<strong>and</strong> industry personnel.What were the impediments to success?––Lack of willingness on the part of <strong>student</strong>s to provide considered<strong>feedback</strong>.––The University’s facility management systems.List separately – strengths <strong>and</strong> weaknesses of the ProjectStrengths––Availability of internal School funding to upgrade learning spaces.––The consolidation of the School LTC (<strong>Learning</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Teaching</strong> Commitee).Weaknesses––Lack of involvement in data gathering by a broad range of <strong>student</strong>s.––The University’s poor maintenance record of facilities.9.7 Other Issues, Challenges <strong>and</strong> SuggestionsWhat issues, challenges have been faced by the team membersin this project?While the time allocated to the project was generous, all team membersundertake busy teaching loads, some of which is offshore, as well as insome cases, considerable administration duties. The strong commitmentto learning <strong>and</strong> teaching investigation was tempered by the need to executesuch activities. A further issue was poor <strong>student</strong> involvement (particularlyat undergraduate level) in focus groups <strong>and</strong> general data gatheringabout their learning experiences.Page 126
