Student Feedback & LeadershipThe ART was assisted by two Facilitators from the DSC College OfficeAcademic Development Unit as there was no School-based Learning andTeaching expertise within the School. As the project evolved and less externalassistance was needed, Facilitator support was reduced to one person.––School of Economics, Finance and Marketing,College of Business (Bus).Four courses were chosen from core first year courses in BusinessStatistics, Marketing Principles, Macroeconomics, Prices and Markets. These courses are common to all of the four undergraduate Businessdegrees with a total of 1000-1500 students (onshore) per year in lecturecohorts. The issue chosen was courses with large enrolments. The ART was assisted by a Facilitator from the central Learning and TeachingDevelopment Unit and also had the School Learning and Teaching Directoras the ART Leader. It was agreed that membership of the ARTs would include interested staff, teaching and learning experts, expert facilitators and support staff as shownin Figure 8.Figure 8 ART MembershipExperts (Facilitators)who act as mentorsand potentiallyprovide resourcesInterested StaffProgram Leaders / ProgramCoordinators, early careeracademics who are the trialersand leadersSupport Staffproviding supportT&L Staffacting as documenters, supporters andresourcesThe ARTs were supported by small incentive grants to assist their activities. These grants were administered through the Project Manager and allocatedwhen ARTs had achieved key milestones. This meant that ARTs would retainownership of their contribution to the project activities.ART members later identified this financial resource provision as an importantfactor in their active engagement in the project and the successful identificationand trial of change innovation. It provided the opportunity for ART membersto obtain some relief from teaching and or marking or provided administrativeassistance to ART members. The first report from the ARTs to the Project Team occurred in February 2007with initial progress reported to the March Project Team meeting.Page 38
