Dubey • Meenakshi Yadav • and Neena Gupta ABSTRACTThe present study was carried out in Kanpur city during 2007 with the objectiveto assess the dietary intake and food habits of kidney patients in private hospitalof Kanpur city. Randomly 100 patients of kidney related diseases were selectedfor the study. The age of the respondents were between 15-65. The informationwas obtained by questionnaire cum interview method. In the questionnaire andtheir response were recorded. The questionnaire was divided under the followingsections-general information comprises of age, sex, dietary habit, anthropometricmeasurements, biochemical test, clinical examination & diet survey. It isconcluded that the majority of respondent were vegetarian and consumption ofnon-vegetarian diet was very less among the respondents, that is only once ina week. Respondents were having adequate eating practices like dairy products,fruits, bakery products, rice, spices and condiments and the intake of the tablesalt, coffee was less, which shows modern adopted behavior of the patients.The calorie, sodium, potassium, fat and carbohydrate intake of all the subjects indifferent age group were adequate. Which concludes that urban population isconcerned about health and food habits are adequate according to theirnutritional daily recommends.Keywords- Nutritional status, Nutrient intake, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)INTRODUCTIONChronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is becoming a major public health problemworldwide.
