Mukesh Kumar, Binod Kumar and Chandan Kishoremay be effective in early generation for these traits. However this trend was not uniformfor all the characters as high heritability coupled with low genetic advance for plantheight and days to flowering indicates the preponderance of non-additive gene effectsfor expression of these characters. Thus, there is a limited scope for improvement inthese traits through selection breeding. Similar results in wheat have been also reportedby Kamboj (2007) and Sen and Toms (2007).The present study concluded that the characters viz; number of grains per spike,1000 grain weight and grain yield per plant should be given top priorities during selectionfor genetic improvement of wheat.REFERENCESAsif, M., Majahid, M.
