<strong>Factors</strong> <strong>Facilitat<strong>in</strong>g</strong> Participati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Women</strong> <strong>in</strong> Mahatma Gandhi NREGS 125The regressi<strong>on</strong> equati<strong>on</strong>s (3) and (4) <strong>in</strong>dicate that level <strong>of</strong>participati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> OBCs was higher than that <strong>of</strong> SCs. On the c<strong>on</strong>trary, theparticipati<strong>on</strong> score, <strong>on</strong> an average was marg<strong>in</strong>ally higher am<strong>on</strong>g OCs visà-visSCs. These differences are significant. In respect <strong>of</strong> educati<strong>on</strong> variable, the participati<strong>on</strong> score was positively and significantly associated with level<strong>of</strong> educati<strong>on</strong>. As expected, social capital is <strong>on</strong>e <strong>of</strong> the key factors <strong>in</strong>fluenc<strong>in</strong>gthe quality <strong>of</strong> participati<strong>on</strong> and development adm<strong>in</strong>istrati<strong>on</strong> should ensurethat the social capital <strong>of</strong> the NREGS workers is enriched. S<strong>in</strong>ce awarenesslevels have significant effect <strong>on</strong> participati<strong>on</strong> scores, the IEC strategiesshould be further ref<strong>in</strong>ed to reach all the secti<strong>on</strong>s.The participati<strong>on</strong>, both <strong>in</strong>cidence and <strong>in</strong>tensity, <strong>of</strong> women workers <strong>in</strong>the entire process (i.e. plann<strong>in</strong>g, implementati<strong>on</strong> and social audit) dependsup<strong>on</strong> several factors; some <strong>of</strong> them facilitate while the others h<strong>in</strong>derparticipati<strong>on</strong>. The role <strong>of</strong> the factors motivat<strong>in</strong>g (Table 5.29) and also thoseh<strong>in</strong>der<strong>in</strong>g (de-motivat<strong>in</strong>g factors) (Table 5.30) was exam<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the earlierchapter. To establish the significance and the effect / c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> thesetwo types <strong>of</strong> factors to participati<strong>on</strong> score, a regressi<strong>on</strong> model has beenfitted with participati<strong>on</strong> score as dependent variable and the <strong>in</strong>dex <strong>of</strong>motivat<strong>in</strong>g and de-motivat<strong>in</strong>g factors as explanatory variables (see theTechnical Note for details). The model is found to be significant but notcomplete <strong>in</strong> the sense, it could expla<strong>in</strong> hardly 24 per cent <strong>of</strong> variati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> theparticipati<strong>on</strong> score.RS 97
