It can be<strong>in</strong>ferred that <strong>in</strong> all the sample districts, a number <strong>of</strong> works reflect<strong>in</strong>g localneeds were taken up.Type <strong>of</strong> Participati<strong>on</strong>To measure participati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> wage seekers especially women, theirparticipati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> MGNREGS is captured <strong>in</strong> five areas. These areas areparticipati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> the process <strong>of</strong> MGNREGS, approach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>ficials for gett<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> different aspects, approach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>ficials <strong>in</strong> the case <strong>of</strong>difficulties/grievances, participati<strong>on</strong> as members <strong>in</strong> different committees,participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> exercis<strong>in</strong>g their rights and tak<strong>in</strong>g decisi<strong>on</strong>s perta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g toMGNREGS at household as well as the community level. A scale wasadm<strong>in</strong>istered to capture the quality <strong>of</strong> participati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> women i.e. reallyactive (2), moderate (1) or no participati<strong>on</strong> (0). Participati<strong>on</strong> was c<strong>on</strong>sideredactive if women took the lead, moderate if woman al<strong>on</strong>g with men took the<strong>in</strong>itiative and nil if men <strong>on</strong>ly participated <strong>in</strong> the activity. In the cases, wheren<strong>on</strong>e from the family took part <strong>in</strong> the process, it was also treated notapplicable case.
