Factors Facilitating Participation of Women in Mahatma Gandhi NREGS 39With regard to average wage earnings from MGNREGS alone, itranged from ` 1310 to ` 10057 having the average income of ` 5100.Maximum income out of MGNREGS is seen in Mahaboobnagar district ofAndhra Pradesh (` 10057) and minimum observed was in South 24 Paraganasdistrict of West Bengal (` 1310). As per the income from MGNREGS alone,in South 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal and Gaya district of Biharalmost all the respondents are in the category of up to ` 8000. In Thrissurdistrict of Kerala and Mahaboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh, 39 and57 per cent of respondents, respectively are in the income category of` 8000 to ` 16000. In Mahaboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh, nine percent of the respondents are in the household income bracket of ` 16001-24000.The pattern is different when income of the household is assessedfrom other sources. The average income earned from other sources is `21943 ranging from ` 34420 (Thrissur district of Kerala) to ` 12361 (Gayadistrict of Bihar). Income from other sources is high both in Thrissur districtof Kerala and South 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal. It is hearteningto see that 38 per cent of the respondents of Thrissur district of Kerala and24 per cent of the respondents of South 24 Paraganas district of WestBengal earned incomes in the category of above ` 32000 from sourcesother than MGNREGS.Average Annual Income of the RespondentAverage annual income of the respondents alone in the householdis also computed taking the income from MGNREGS and income from othersources. It is observed that the average income from sources other thanMGNREGS is ` 3096 ranging from ` 1428 (Thrissur district of Kerala) to` 4490 (South 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal). However, averageincome earned by the respondents from MGNREGS is high in Thrissur districtwith ` 6334 while the MGNREGS income is lower at Gaya and South 24Paraganas ` 1108 and ` 1147, respectively. It is clear that in Kerala incomefrom MGNREGS is high and on the contrary for sample respondents in WestBengal income from other sources is high for women.RS 97
