Step 3 - Set Up vFabric Hyperic ServerBefore installing the server:1. Configure user-managed keystore for server (Optional).If you want the vFabric Hyperic server to use a keystore that you manage yourself forSSL communication, rather than vFabric Hyperic-generated keystores, set up a JKSformat keystore for the vFabric Hyperic Server on its host and import the SSL certificatefor it. Make a note of the full path to the keystore, and its password — you will supplythis information when you run the vFabric Hyperic installer (in -full mode).Password Requirement for vFabric Hyperic KeystoresThe vFabric Hyperic Server's keystore password and private key password mustbe the same — otherwise, the vFabric Hyperic Server's internal Tomcat-basedserver will be unable to start.For more information, see About SSL in vFabric Hyperic2. Define Server HQ_JAVA_HOME (As necessary).vFabric Hyperic platform-specific server installers include a JRE; platform-independentinstallers do not. Depending on your environment and the installer you use, you mayneed to define the location of the JRE to ensure that the server can find the JRE youwant it to use.For more information, and instructions, see Configure JREs for vFabric HypericComponents.3. Make sure the vFabric Hyperic database is available.During the installation process, the vFabric Hyperic Server will test the database connection.Procedure1. Install vFabric Hyperic Server.Follow the instructions for installer you are using:o Install vFabric Hyperic vAppo Run vFabric Hyperic Installero Install vFabric Hyperic Server RPM2. Install License.o Evaluation versions of vFabric Hyperic have a built-in, time-limited evaluationlicense — you should not need to install a license.o If you are installing a licensed version of vFabric Hyperic, follow the theinstructions on Install or Configure vFabric Hyperic License.22

Start the vFabric Hyperic Server.o Follow the instructions that apply to your environment:If you installed the vFabric Hyperic Server from the VMware yum repository to anRHEL VM, the vFabric Hyperic Server is configured to start automatically eachtime the VM starts up. If you installed the vFabric Hyperic Server for adownloaded RPM, following these steps to start the vFabric Hyperic Server as adaemon:o Log in to the vFabric Hyperic Server host as root.• Open a terminal window and run the /etc/init.d/hyperic-hqserverscript with the start parameter:/etc/init.d/hyperic-hq-server startOn Unix-Like platforms, to start the vFabric Hyperic Server as a daemon:a. Open a command shell.b. Change directory to ServerHome/bin, and enter:hq-server.sh startOn Windows platforms, to install the vFabric Hyperic Server Windows serviceand start the service:a. Open a terminal window.b. Change directory to ServerHome\bin and enterhq-server.bat installhq-server.bat startThe script will display startup information on stdout, then detach and run inthe background.4. Verify that the vFabric Hyperic Server started successfully.o Verify that the vFabric Hyperic Server started successfully by pointing your webbrowser to the vFabric Hyperic user interface.o After the vFabric Hyperic Server starts up, which may take a moment or so,display the vFabric Hyperic user interface at the following URL, replacing"ServerHostName" with the server's hostname (or "localhost" from the serverhost).
