Two-Step Migration ProcedureIn this procedure "two-step" refers the fact that export and import processes are separate steps.. Before you start the process, verify that you have installed vFabric 5.7 and vPostgreSQLThe two-step upgrade process consists of these steps:1. Export Data from vFabric Hyperic 4.x2. Import Data to vFabric Hyperic 5.71. Export Existing Database and Server Configurationa. Shut down the 4.6 (or later) vFabric Hyperic Server.Note that if the server is running when you execute the migration script, the migrationprocess will stop the vFabric Hyperic Server.b. Copy the migration package, hq-migration-5.7.zip from the vFabric Hyperic5.7 installer to the 4.x vFabric Hyperic Server host.The package is located in the installer/bin directory of the 5.7 installer homedirectory.c. On the vFabric Hyperic 4.x host, unpack hq-migration-5.7.zip.The expanded package has this directory structure:hq-migration-5.7logslibdatabinThe root of the unpacked migration package directory structure, hqmigration-5.7in the directory tree above, is referred to henceforth asMigrationHome.82
d. To export all configuration and metric data, run the following command in acommand shell:./hq-migrate.sh hq-export -Dhqserver.install.path=PathToServerHomewhere PathToServerHome is the full path to the vFabric Hyperic Server installationdirectory, or the path relative to MigrationHome.If you want to export configuration data only, not metric data, add -DconfigOnly=true to the command line.The script reads your pre-5.7 vFabric Hyperic Server's hq-server.conf file,connects to your existing vFabric Hyperic database, exports the database, andcreates a tarball with key artifacts and the database dump, in hq-migrationexport-HqVersion.tgz.o The archive is written to the import staging directory,migration_home/tmp/export-data by default, or the value ofstaging.dir if specified.o Export log files install.log and install.log.verbose are written to thelogs directory.2. Import Server Configuration and DatabaseThe import process must run under an database account with superuser permissions. Bydefault, the process will use the database credentials defined by theserver.database-user and server.database-password properties in hqserver.conf.If the database user account defined in hq-server.conf is not asuperuser, you must supply a superuser account's credentials at the the command lineusing -Dtarget.database.username and -Dtarget.database.password (or ina properties file using target.database.username andtarget.database.password).a. Copy the export tarball to the the vFabric Hyperic 5.7 Server host, or make itavailable to the machine on which the 5.7 server is installed. In the latter case,expect some network latency overhead.b. Run the migration script with the import option../hq-migrate.sh hq-import -Dhqserver.install.path=PathToServerHome -Dexport.archive.path=PathToExportArchiveo replacing PathToServerHome and PathToExportArchive appropriately.Note: Enter the command on a single line.83
