About vFabric Hyperic JREsBoth vFabric Hyperic Server and vFabric Hyperic Agents require a JRE. Some vFabric Hypericinstallers include a JRE; they are called platform-specific. Installers without a JRE are calledplatform-independent. Depending on your environment and the installation package you use,you may need to define the location of the JRE for the server or your agents. You do not need to configure the location of the JRE when you do a platform-specificserver install on a machine with no JRE.You do need to configure the location of the JRE when you:o Install the vFabric Hyperic Server (or the vFabric Hyperic Agent) with a platformindependentinstaller,o Install the vFabric Hyperic Server (or the vFabric Hyperic Agent) with a platformspecificinstaller on a machine that has its own JRE that you prefer to use.o Install a vFabric Hyperic Agent from an RPM. Agent RPMs do not include a JRE.How vFabric Hyperic Server Resolves its JRE on any PlatformOn both Unix-Like and Windows platforms, vFabric Hyperic Server resolves the JRE to usein this order:1. HQ_JAVA_HOME environment variable2. embedded JRE3. JAVA_HOME environment variableThe vFabric Hyperic Agent has resolves its JRE differently than the vFabric Hyperic Serverdoes, and differently depending on platform type. Ifyou do a platform-specific agent install on a machine without an existing JRE, you do not needto explicitly configure the location of the JRE to use.You should configure the JRE location with the HQ_JAVA_HOME environment variable if you doa platform-independent agent install, or a platform-specific install on a Unix machine thatalready has a JRE that you prefer to use.How a vFabric Hyperic Agent Resolves its JRE on UnixOn Unix-like platforms, vFabric Hyperic Agent resolves the JRE to use in this order:1.
