764 DEVELOPMENTAL REPRODUCTIVE TOXICOLOGY: A PRACTICAL APPROACH, SECOND EDITIONrecord vaginal smears daily, at least during the mating period, to determine whether there are effectson mating or precoital timeobservations that have proved of value in other toxicity studies.At terminal examination:necropsy (macroscopic examination) of all adults,preserve organs with macroscopic findings for possible histological evaluation; keep correspondingorgans of sufficient controls for comparison,preserve testes, epididymides, ovaries and uteri from all animals for possible histological examinationand evaluation on a case by case basis. Tissues can be discarded after completion and reporting ofthe study.sperm count in epididymides or testes, as well as sperm viabilitycount corpora lutea, implantation sites (Note 16),live and dead conceptuses.4.1.2 Study for Effects on Pre- and Postnatal Development,Including Maternal FunctionAIMTo detect adverse effects on the pregnant/lactating female and on development of the conceptusand the offspring following exposure of the female from implantation through weaning.
