Provide gateways into Lawrenceville to improvesense of placeThe City has made strides to start developing a clearerboundary between unincorporated Gwinnett County and theCity Limits, especially along Scenic Highway, where newsignage has been installed and the City worked hard toinclude a landscaped median in the widening of theroadway several years ago. The City should develop a setof guidelines for strategic gateway nodes into Lawrencevillethat would provide landscaping, signage, and other featuresto provide a clear delineation between the county and theCity, as one measure of increasing (or reclaiming) the senseof place.3.8 Transportation3.8.1 Transportation IssuesStreet connectivityOne of the biggest issues in Lawrenceville is the lack ofconnectivity of many local streets. This was most recentlybrought to light in the Downtown Master Plan, completed in2005, which showed a number of streets from the original“grid” of Lawrenceville that were never completed or havebeen abandoned in the past. Additionally, the presence ofAerial view of the westernedge of Lawrenceville – notethe lack of connections acrossthe railroad tracks and theend of the traditional gridpattern.the CSX tracks and a ridgeline cuts the downtown area offfrom the business and neighborhoods north of the tracks. There are only four north/south connections in the areanear the downtown, so connectivity between the traditionalCity of Lawrenceville 3 - 16Comprehensive Plan 2030Adopted VersionCommunity Agenda 6 October 2008
