Protect and preserve established neighborhoodsincluding those <strong>of</strong> historical significance to the<strong>City</strong>.Improve and rehabilitate existing neighborhoods by: Eliminating or minimizing the impact <strong>of</strong> blightingfactors such as incompatible land uses and highvolume traffic routes. Upgrading public facilities and services. Providing basic amenities such as parks and openspace. Encouraging the rehabilitation and/orreplacement <strong>of</strong> substandard residentialstructures. Promote the preservation <strong>of</strong> older or historichomes through adaptive reuse, and reviewexisting policies to determine if appropriatedesign guidelines are needed. Provide transition in scale and/or land usebetween high and low intensity land uses. Provide opportunities for higher densityresidential development to serve as a bufferbetween nonresidential nodes and surroundingsinglefamily detached neighborhoods. Permit residential/mixed uses while maintainingthe retail character <strong>of</strong> local streets. Retain singlefamily housing as the predominanthousing type in <strong>Lawrenceville</strong>.
