Besides the expansion ofthe sidewalks and greenways in the City, the City shouldencourage:• the expansion of the Lawrenceville Shuttle vansystem that are currently running between the GJACfacility and the downtown area;• the continued expansion of the Gwinnett Transit BusSystem; and• proposed “Brain Train” commuter train that wouldpass through Lawrenceville with two stops –downtown and near the Airport at Cedars (in theCounty).More mixed use developmentsMixed use developments allow residents and visitors toaccomplish several tasks without having to move their carbetween uses. More opportunities for locals to live, workand play in Lawrenceville will have numerous positiveeffects on traffic congestion, economic development andland use patterns.Increase sidewalks and greenwaysLawrenceville should continue ongoing projects to improveand upgrade sidewalks in the community, though CDBG andTransportation Enhancement funds. The City should alsorequire improved sidewalk connectivity on newdevelopments (particularly with connections betweenbusinesses and the adjoining roads). The City should studythe possibility of a greenway trail system using utilityeasements, stream corridors and other means to connectneighborhoods, parks and recreational opportunities withschools, commercial areas and employment centers.3.9 Intergovernmental Coordination3.9.1 Intergovernmental Coordination IssuesMunicipalCounty CoordinationThe City of Lawrenceville in conjunction with GwinnettCounty, cooperate to provide or share services such asParks and Recreation, E911, Emergency Services, Sheriff’sOffice, schools and sewer. The City should meet regularlywith Gwinnett County and its’ neighboring municipalities todiscuss these issues and others pertinent to the area suchas water resources and transportation management.
