Chapter 4 - Sketching• Coincident constraint: An existing reference point can be made coincident with a locationon the B-spline by either dragging it onto the B-spline OR by using the sketch Coincidentconstraint tool.Note: A point coincident to a B-spline is kept “floating”, meaning that the constraint system canmove the point of coincidence to any other location along the curve. However any coincidenceestablished at either endpoint of the B-spline remains fixed.• Tangent constraint: can be placed between a B-spline curve and any other figure in thesketch that can participate in the constraint system.Note: The note above on “floating” and “fixed” constraint applies to this constraint also.• Perpendicular constraint can be placed between a B-spline curve and any other figure inthe sketch that can participate in the constraint system.Note: The note above on “floating” and “fixed” constraint applies to this constraint also.• Intersection point constraint can be placed between a B-spline curve and any otherfigure in the sketch that can participate in the constraint system.• Fixed constraint allows the B-spline curve to be locked in place.Moving a spline curveThe main distinguishing feature of the B-spline is that it retains its shape at all times. That is, it canonly translate and rotate rigidly in order to satisfy the constraints imposed on it. Other items to noteinclude:• Dragging a B-spline by its endpoint to existing sketch geometry introduces a “fixed”coincident constraint between the B-spline and that figure.• Otherwise, dragging a B-spline to an existing reference point introduces a “floating”coincident constraint between the B-spline and that figure.• Dragging an existing reference point to a B-spline introduces a coincident constraintbetween the point and the B-spline. It is “fixed” or “floating” depending on whether the pointwas dragged to the B-spline's endpoint or an internal location respectively.‣ To move a spline curve rigidly:1. Choose the Select tool from the Sketching toolbar.2. Click and hold the mouse button on the curve, and drag the spline curve.3. Release the mouse button to place the curve.59
