Staffing and Administrative support and PR<strong>of</strong>essional Development9. Program Standard: The early childhood specialist and/or the programadministrator has/have the responsibility <strong>for</strong> directing the evaluationactivities <strong>of</strong> the program and instructional personnel.A <strong>Quality</strong> Program:1. Arranges <strong>for</strong>, under the direction <strong>of</strong> the early childhood specialist and/orthe program administrator and in conjunction with teachers, staff, andparents, the annual evaluation <strong>of</strong> the early childhood education programutilizing local, state, and national standards or criteria <strong>for</strong> quality, effectiveearly childhood education.2. Arranges <strong>for</strong> the early childhood specialist and/or the programadministrator to annually evaluate staff per<strong>for</strong>mance according to local,state, and national standards and/or criteria using a variety <strong>of</strong> techniques(e.g., observation, self-evaluation).3. Requires the early childhood specialist and/or program administrator toutilize the results <strong>of</strong> staff per<strong>for</strong>mance evaluations to plan activities <strong>for</strong>program improvement, staff development, and training.10. Program Standard: The early childhood specialist and/or programadministrator participate in continuing education/pr<strong>of</strong>essionaldevelopment activities.A <strong>Quality</strong> Program:1. Provides funding and time <strong>for</strong> the early childhood specialist and/orprogram administrator to actively associate with at least one pr<strong>of</strong>essionalorganization concerning young children (e.g., <strong>Michigan</strong> Association <strong>for</strong> theEducation <strong>of</strong> Young Children, Council <strong>for</strong> Exceptional Children).2. Provides funding and time <strong>for</strong> the early childhood specialist and/orprogram administrator to actively seek knowledge and ideas by readingpr<strong>of</strong>essional publications.3. Requires the early childhood specialist and/or program administrator todisseminate in<strong>for</strong>mation regarding early childhood research and staffdevelopment opportunities to staff.26 <strong>Michigan</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Education
