The main aim of the programme is to provide minimum of 100 days guaranteed employment to the
people who have demanded and registered themselves for getting employment. In the study area out
of 150 respondents 81 (56.67%) got employment ranging from 50 – 75 days. Most of the employees
got employment for 70 + days and 69 (43.33%) got employment ranging from 75-100 days. In the
context of three villages also 28 (56%), 24(48%) and 29 (58%) got maximum of 75 days of
employment and the remaining respondents got 75+ days of employment.

To ensure the livelihood of the people, the Act pointed out that during the non availability of
employment through MGNREGP, the implementing authority should provide unemployment
allowance for the registered beneficiaries. Most of the studies on NREGP found that the people do not
have awareness regarding the unemployment allowance. The unemployment fund is being misutilised
and misappropriated by the officials. But in the study area all the 150 respondents have an awareness
regarading the provision of unemployment allowance.
