Introduction to Employment
in the Hospitality Industry

This course gives you an
introduction to the catering and
hospitality industry. You will
gain an awareness of catering
and hospitality, healthy foods
and special diets, basic kitchen
equipment and food safety in
catering. You will also learn how to
prepare and cook food by boiling,
poaching, steaming, stewing,
braising, baking, grilling and deep
and shallow frying.
The aim of this one-day course is
to provide food handlers with a
fundamental knowledge of food
hygiene and to enable them to
apply this knowledge to essential
practical skills in order to prevent
food poisoning, to food safety
hazards, the importance of taking
temperatures, refrigeration, chilling
and cold holdings of food, the
principles of safe food storage
and cleaning food premises and
equipment.
This course meets the needs of
learners who work in the hospitality
industry to meet the minimum
requirements put in place by the EU
in relation to food safety.

This course is for you if you are
looking to enter the Hospitality
Industry, you have little or no
previous knowledge or experience
of the industry, but are keen to
get your career started and you
want a good basic understanding
of the hospitality industry. This
qualification will help you with
ongoing study or to find your first
job in the hospitality sector.
This course will allow you to learn,
develop and practice the skills and
knowledge required for employment
and/or career progression in the
hospitality sector.
