Free space on both sides of the bearing<br />

To prevent interference between rotating and<br />

stationary components, the abutment diameter<br />

on the shaft should be < d 2 and in the<br />

housing > D 1 († fig. 13). Values for d 2 and D 1<br />

are listed in the product tables.<br />

The necessary width of the free space C a<br />

depends on:<br />

• the actual misalignment<br />

• the possible protrusion of the cage from the<br />

side face of the bearing for some bearing<br />

sizes<br />

• lubrication requirements<br />

That requisite free space should be at least 20<br />

times the minimum value of the radial internal<br />

clearance in the unmounted bearing<br />

(† table 4, page 892 or table 5, page 893).<br />
