PENETRATION TESTING WITH A SINGLE REMOTE DRONE In the previous chapter, we walked through a penetration test of a fictitious company, Phil’s Financial Enterprises LLC, using a single Beagle lunchbox computer. The test was performed from a van parked close to the target. We will repeat this penetration test but this time using a single remote hacking drone. I realize that we haven’t covered extending our efforts using IEEE 802.15.4 networking just yet. That is the subject of the next chapter. For now, just trust me that we can use IEEE 802.15.4 to control our penetration test from up to one mile (1.6 km) away. Because the IEEE 802.15.4 is a bit on the slow side (250 kbps and under), the link will be used for command and control as opposed to highly interactive (possibly graphical) applications. A facility for running command line applications will be presented in the next chapter. While on the face of it adding the ability to remote control a penetration testing Beagle might not seem to buy us much, it is quite powerful. A hacking drone is easily placed in a car parked outside the PFE office. This drone can be run from the car battery for the duration of the test. Everything can be controlled fromthe hotel downthe street. No need to break for food or other biological needs. No more suspiciously hanging out in the van. The automobile can be move occasionally to further avert suspicion.

GETTING ON THE WIRELESS As before, a wireless monitoring mode interface is easily created by executing the command airmon-ng start wlan0 as root assuming your wireless adapter is called wlan0. Recall that if this is the first time you have run this command, the newly created interface will be mon0. Airodump-ng is meant to run in a console window so we will have to do something different with the hacking drone. It is true that we could run airodump-ng from a Python or shell script and parse the output that has been redirected to a file, but using available Python modules is easier and more elegant. Scapy is a powerful Python module for creating, modifying, and sniffing network packets. It is easily used to capture local wireless networks and any interesting
