The egg is as small as a ping-pong ball, but its amount of cholesterol is 20 times higher than that of chicken egg, an excess of which can lead to heart attack or stroke. Turtle eggs are definitely not magical as they might be rumored to be.
You know what, in 1000 baby turtles only 600 ones are successful in finding their way to the swallow water near the shore. Among them, only one turtle is strong enough to survive and return to the beach to lay eggs after 15-20 years. What's more is this extremely low rate has been affected by humans for decades. In Vietnam, Con Dao National Park is considered a paradise for turtles to lay eggs at with 14 large beaches including Hon Bay Canh, Hon Cau, and Hon Tre Lon, spanning a total area of dozens of thousands of square some. Observing a turtle surfing on the water to find a place to lay her eggs is an intriguing experience. Not many people know that, when laying eggs, turtles do not know if their children are male or female. While human sex is formed by chromosomal structures, sand's temperature and environment are the key factors to decide a turtle sex. Incubating eggs at high temperature (above 29 degrees C) produces more females, while lower temperatures produce more males. Researchers indicate that turtles can choose the areas with suitable sand's temperature to choose their children's sex. after years. The fantasy world on the ocean floor with the huge diversity of fish and colorful coral reefs are exciting but dangerous to baby turtles. Upon reaching the water, they will swim continuously for 2-5 days without food. Their first year of life is known as the "disappearing year" as they are rarely found during this period. How they can survive in their first year is still a mystery for scientists, for no device can track the development of baby turtles in their first stage of life. In addition to the rigors of nature, sea turtles now have to struggle to This new year, why don't we make efforts to change this sad fact, to build a peaceful "house" of healthy ecosystem so that the little turtle can safely "find their way home" after years of living in the ocean? kilometers. If you have a chance, then visit Hon Bay Canh in the east of Con Son island. Here, the island's two parts are connected by a sand beach named Bai Cat Lon (the large sand beach). This is where sea turtles most often lay their eggs. Meanwhile, Hon Tre Lon is a pristine island and home to various examples of nature such as coral, fish, bird nests, and, especially, sea turtles. There are several rangers living and working to protect the island's natural landscape and wild life. The breeding season of sea turtles lasts from April to October, in which the peak season is from July to September. You are only allowed to visit Bay Canh island for 4-6 hours, or, at most, a night stay to watch turtles lay eggs. To do that, you must ask for a permit from the National Park on the Con Son island (the permit is free of charge and valid until 5pm the next day). In each breeding season, a turtle lays eggs in 2-5 nests. Each nest consists of 50 to 150 eggs, or even up to 200 in In Con Dao, rangers support to balance turtle sexes by taking a half of eggs to a place with more sunshine while covering the other under a sunscreen. After 45 to 60 days, the baby turtles hatch from their eggs. The baby turtles then find their way to the sea by the skyline, moonlight, stars, and the slope of sand. Therefore, if the turtle mom lays its eggs near residential areas which have strong light, baby turtles will misunderstand and move backward to that direction away from the sea. As a result, the baby turtles will die due to lack of water and being exhausted. Newly born turtles are weak but they need to "take an adventure" on the beach full of enemies such as ants, craps, iguanas, dogs, and cats. Even when they reach the water and swim through the shallow area, they are threatened by big fish and hunting sea birds. It is amazing that, although they only spend a matter of hours on the beach, turtles remember and find the way back there to lay eggs survive with pollution and human poaching. Turtle eggs are believed to be a nutritious food and a local specialty. Sometimes, you will even see some tourists innocently ask volunteers on the beach to buy some eggs ... to try eating! The egg is as small as a ping-pong ball, but its amount of cholesterol is 20 times higher than that of chicken egg, an excess of which can lead to heart attack or stroke. Sea turtles are hunted to exhaustion while their hatching environment is devastated. That's why the number of sea turtles in Con Dao and other areas in Vietnam has dramatically decreased. This New Year, why don't we make efforts to change this sad fact, to build a peaceful "house" with a healthy ecosystem so that the little turtles can safely "find their way home" after years of living in the ocean? Protecting sea turtles, witnessing turtle mothers make nest to lay eggs, and watching thousands of baby turtles toddling to the sea are amazing experiences.
