TRAVELLIVE 02-2017

I often save the air tickets of every trip I have taken with my friends and family. Sometimes, when looking at each of them, I feel like all the emotion and memories are kept inside the small piece of paper. In my latest journey, my companions were the two little kids, Amy and Alex, travelling with their mother. It was amazing as I as was able to stay awake for hours during the flight, eagerly listening to the adventures of these little travelers. Among their stories, the one about globe impressed me the most. When they were asking their mom where they will go the next time, she just gave them the small globe, smiled, and let Amy point at one of the place on it. Amy and Alex were so excited, screaming with glee when their mom told them about the next place. The kids together made a plan to save money, and prepare for their next trip. From time to time, the family had traveled around the world with that globe. They showed me that no matter where we go, one should plan their voyage with love so as to make every trip into an exciting page of life’s book. The book of my life is marked with the air tickets I have collected over the years and the memories attached to each of them. It has been said that life is a journey, not a destination. The purpose then, is to travel to new places, experience and learn new things, relax after working days, or to find yourself, your passion and love. Have you got your next journey planned?

The elephants are highly revered
to an incredible degree and are,
therefore, treated like human
beings in this tribe.
M'nong people coexist with
elephants, sharing a special
bond with the creatures and are
well-known for their elephant
training skills. Tracking and
"domesticating" elephants is a
very tricky and dangerous job.
The hunters not only require
special skills to overcome the
challenges of capturing them,
but they also need to overcome
the adversities that a wild jungle
presents.
The wild elephants are captured
when they are very young and
then reared as pets. Having a
"domesticated" elephant plays
a crucial part in uplifting the
daily life of locals and also
serves as an important means of
transportation for the M'nong
people.
Traditionally, elephants were
symbols of war. The chief
of the village often be hear
telling amazing cultural stories
about how elephants aided
in overpowering an enemy.
Elephants are not seen as
workers but rather as partners in
enriching the lives of the M'nong
tribe.
The Law for Protecting
Elephants
The Law of protecting elephants
was created by the M'nong tribe.
When elephants are not in good
physical condition, it's the duty of
the villagers to take care of them.
This is both a duty and a privilege.
People who abuse or eat elephants
are duly punished, and those who
kill elephants for business or
profit are strictly penalized. There
are various fines that need to be
paid depending on the severity of
the crime. Those who excessively
abuse elephants pay a fine by
replacing it with a cow or another
elephant.
This law of care applies to both
humans and elephants. If, for
some reason, an elephant abuses
or causes the death of a human,
it is killed. The village chief
organizes a hearing to discuss the
claims with other villagers and
depending on the circumstance,
a suitable punishment will be
carried out.
The 6 th Buon Ma Thuot
