What should you look for when choosing a dentist?
Choosing the right dentist is a really important decision for you and your family.
If you have children, in particular, your choice of dentist can shape their attitude towards
going to the dentist for years to come. Most practices that offer NHS treatments like ours
will offer “Childsmile” care to offer specialist advice and treatment designed to ensure
good dental health. In addition you should also be able to get a feel for a dentist’s bedside
(or chair side) manner – remember, there’s nothing stopping you changing dentist at any
point.
Personal recommendation is normally a good indication - friends, colleagues and family
generally won’t recommend a bad dentist but do make sure you compare like with like. If
you have children ask friends with families. Similarly, if you or a family member is nervous
about visits to the dentist maybe ask someone who feels the same. You can also have a
look at any online reviews.
Make sure the practice you are considering offers the range of services you want. Some
will just offer basic treatments whilst others offer a full range of cosmetic dentistry and
specialist services such as sedation for nervous patients like we do at Kilbarchan Dental

The physical environment is becoming increasingly important. New, modern dental centres
will suggest an investment in the latest equipment and a commitment to patient care. A
well designed spacious practice can still be friendly and welcoming and our patients have
responded very positively to our children’s playroom.
Resource should be a consideration. Most dentists have thousands of patients so check
that there is a sufficient team of fully qualified dentists for the size of the practice. Customer
care is important to the quality of experience and the better practices will always try and
meet your needs when you are making your appointment. It is also worth checking opening
times - not all dentists open on a Saturday for instance.
Spend some time investigating the options available to you in your area to find the best one

Bridge of Weir Choral Society
Spring Concert: Saturday 25 April at 7.30pm
St Columba Church Kilmacolm
Final rehearsals are taking place for Bridge of Weir Choral Society’s annual
Spring concert which will take place on Saturday 25 April at St Columba Church,
Kilmacolm.
The main work to be performed is The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins. Listeners
to Classic FM will be familiar with much of this work and also with many of the
opera choruses which form the rest of the programme- Verdi’s ‘Anvil’ chorus,
‘Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves’ to name but two.
Soloists will be Natalie O’Reilly (soprano) and Svetlina Stoyanova (mezzo). There
will be instrumentalists from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the whole
evening will be under the directorship of Christopher Barr.
The concert starts at 7.30pm.
