Kilmacolm Primary School Parent Partnership recently held a useful meeting
with the Council’s School Estates Team to discuss the forthcoming £3.7m
refurbishment project, which is due to commence in October this year and
be completed within 12 months. Among the issues discussed were the likely
timing of the decant of the primary school (the nursery is remaining on site)
and the arrangements for transporting pupils to and from the former St
Stephen’s High School building in Port Glasgow. Further meetings are planned
in the coming months to ensure that parents are kept fully informed during the
development of this exciting project for the school.
The Council’s Environment & Regeneration Committee last month approved
£4.3m of investment in our roads infrastructure during this financial year,
2015/16. The major project for Kilmacolm and Quarrier’s Village is the main
A761 road to Bridge of Weir. The carriageway will be fully resurfaced from the junction with the B788 to the boundary
with Renfrewshire Council. Extensive drainage improvement works will be undertaken before the carriageway works
commence. Park Road in Kilmacolm is also due to have its footway renewed.
There are a number of other carriageway and footway projects in the area that are on reserve lists. If these are not
completed during 2015/16 they will be priority for 2016/17.
The Port Glasgow I-Youth Zone was officially opened by Councillor McColgan on 23 March. This new drop in centre
for young people is located at Dubbs Place, adjacent to Boglestone Community Centre.
The I-Youth Zone provides a safe place for young people to participate in a range of activities, gain access to advice
and support and encourages them to become actively involved in their communities. Young people aged 12+ can
meet friends, access computers/internet, make arts and crafts, participate in team activities, play games and have
access to trained youth work staff. The project also provides a range of information on various issues such as alcohol
and drugs, sexual health, mental health and bullying.
The I-Youth Zone is open to young people from Kilmacolm and Quarrier’s Village as well as their peers from Port
Glasgow. For further information, please contact Youth Work Services on 01475 715450 or e-mail: CLD.Admin@
