Duchal Nursery School
March seems to have been a busy month with the conclusion of our “People
that Help Us” topic, a pyjama day for World Book Day and our Comic Relief
Café!! All this in addition to our usual French and PE Lessons!!!
The children have had lots of fun hosting their own café, making “Red Nose”
Biscuits and entertaining their guests in our own café for Comic Relief. A
very enjoyable way to raise money for such a good cause.
After a week of reading lots of new and interesting books from our in house
library we celebrated World Book Day with a day in pyjamas reading books
under our duvets! It has really inspired us to keep on reading.
It was lovely to welcome so many new families to our open morning, if you
were unable to make it and you would like to find out more about what we
do at Duchal please come and visit us one morning - contact Head Teacher
Jean McCarthy on 874358 to arrange a convenient time or keep up to date
Eco Stories
When well-known local storyteller Anne
Pitcher was asked to tell stories about
climate change and sustainability and
provide two puppet making workshops
for Child’s Play Out of School Care in
Lochwinnoch Primary School - she
answered “Yes!” for she always likes a
LEAP’s Community Development Officer for Education, Susie
Herteleer asked Anne to tackle this important subject in a way that
would engage the children. On Friday 23rd January Anne took
the children on a eco-storytelling journey with her interactive and
participative style accompanied by some of her puppet friends
and curious sound makers. Then the children created envelope
puppets to re-tell the stories.
On 30th January the children created their own wonderful Eco
stories with Anne’s help, then some children made puppets from
junk and re-cycled clothing, to retell their stories. Some older
children made a fantastic Manga style storyboard to tell one story.
Child’s Play Manager Leanne Ramage said “Anne’s storytelling,
looking at climate change and sustainability, has encouraged the
children to think about these things from the angle of hearing and
telling stories and creating puppets - it’s been great fun! They
really enjoyed creating the puppets from junk and envelopes as
well as making up and telling their own Eco stories.”
