Now let’s extend the 10 year period to see what kinds of money could
be made by the time this couple gets to age 65. Because this couple
are aged 35, we can do our projections on 30 years growth. These next
projections are based on the 35 year old couple continuing to add the
full ISA allowance of £14,400 each and every year.
But I have to warn you that returning up to 30% over long periods of
time is not going to be easy. In fact it is going to be very diffi cult … but
it may be possible.
As billionaire retailer Sam Walton once said, “High expectations are the
key to everything.”
Aiming to get 30% returns for a period of longer than 10 years is
going to be much more diffi cult–even if the market does move up
powerfully.
With this in mind, in the projections you are about to see, I have used a
30 year long-term growth target of 17.5% which is my best estimation of
what is achievable over that length of time span.
Investing £14,400 per Year at 17.5% Growth over 30
Years
To do our calculation, we simply tap into the Monthly Savings Plan
Calculator the following fi gures.
In the Monthly Payment box, we type in 1200 representing £1200.
In the Duration box, we type in 30 and in the interest rate (annually)
box, we type in 17.5.
When we hit calculate, the calculator quickly works out how much the
saved £1200 per month would grow into if grown at 17.5% over the next
30 years. Here is the result:
