Stephen Sutherland
six days a week, and sometimes seven, I train on a Life Fitness cross
training machine. Th e fi rst 20 minutes of my hour period is always the
hardest. But once I am through that fi rst 20 minutes, my breathing
is more controlled, my legs don’t ache as much and I feel much more
positive about achieving my end goal.
Th is is very much like building wealth. It might seem a little awkward
at fi rst but once you have built up that momentum, like a plane that has
just taken off , you are able to ease gently back on the throttle into what
will be a very enjoyable fl ight. Some people ask why I cross train as much
as I do. And when they do, I always share with them what I believe to
be the enormous benefi ts. And these benefi ts help your health and your
wealth.
And if you think about it, your overall health and wellbeing will always
play a major role in building wealth. Put simply, a person who is strong
and healthy in mind and body is going to respond much better to adversity
compared with a person who is unhealthy. And I am sure that you will
agree that a person who is unhealthy is therefore the more likely of the
two to give up when the going gets tough.
Another example of why I train as often as I do, comes from William
Glasser’s outstanding book; Positive Addiction. Glasser states that
vigorous daily exercising (such as running or cross training) helps you
to build mental strength which in turn helps you to persist–which then
helps you to stay the course until goal completion. I remember Glasser
saying something that made a huge impact on me. He said, most people
know what to do and even how to do it, but they do not have the mental
strength to follow through. And if you are ambitious like me and you agree
with Glasser’s message, you might decide to do whatever you can–from
this point onwards–to improve and increase your mental strength.
How to Live Your Dream Lifestyle Now
We are now closing in on the fi nish line and before we start to wrap
