Whatever your answer is, these are the things that you want to be<br />

stopping doing–or not doing as much of.<br />

On the fl ip side, also identify things that make you feel good. Th e things<br />

you highlight are the things that you want to be doing more of.<br />

You see, when it comes to time and tasks, you can do only one of four<br />

things. You can do more of something, you can do less of something, you<br />

can stop doing something and fi nally you can start to do something.<br />

By focusing on what you want to do more of, what you want to do less<br />

of, what you feel you would like to start doing and what you know you<br />

need to stop, your life will transform dramatically.<br />

It is a very simple idea but with remarkable consequences.<br />

Paul and I made the conscious decision a long time ago that we were<br />

going to stop putting ourselves in situations that caused us unease<br />

and start spending more time on things that gave us pleasure–and<br />

made us feel happy. By taking time to really think about what we<br />

were both doing with our lives, we recognised people, situations and<br />

circumstances that were causing us pain and then made a decision to<br />

phase them out.<br />

We also recognised the things that we loved to do, and people that we<br />

felt great about spending time with. And all we did was start to spend<br />

more time on these things we enjoyed and made a more conscious eff ort<br />

to see the people we connected with much more often.<br />

Some of the things we identifi ed that caused us discomfort we stopped<br />

immediately.<br />

And by doing this, the relief we felt–when we realised that we were in<br />

control of our lives and we did not have to do anything that we didn’t<br />

want–was and is extremely liberating.<br />

If for any reason you think that this will not work for you, I suggest that<br />

you give it a try just to see if it makes any diff erence to how you feel about<br />
