And keeping with this theme of trend investing, professional investor<br />

and author Mark Shipman in his excellent book; Th e Next Big Investment<br />

Boom had this to say:<br />

”It is no coincidence that the hedge funds and other alternative investment<br />

companies that employ trend following strategies are responsible for some of<br />

the most spectacular performance returns.”<br />

In other words, you can make some serious money if you know how to<br />

invest with the trend.<br />

Before we move on, let me just clear something up. Th e comments I made<br />

earlier with regard to what advisers, brokers and banks should be doing,<br />

is of course a personal opinion of mine. And I may have it all wrong. But<br />

it was interesting to see that in the wealth section of the June 21 st /June<br />

22 nd 2008 edition of the Financial Times, there was an article that helped<br />

to confi rm my thoughts and beliefs. Th e headline read, “Wealthy want<br />

more bank for their buck” with the sub-headline “Large numbers of well-off<br />

investors are unhappy with their managers and advisers.”<br />

Th e article, written by Matthew Vincent, mentioned that more than a<br />

third of wealthy investors are considering changing their private bank to<br />

get a better service, and half are thinking of changing their investment<br />

managers.<br />

I don’t think I need to go into the article in great detail for you to get the<br />

idea. Th is is just another example highlighting the fact that many high<br />

net worth investors are not happy about the levels of service they receive<br />

from their advisers.<br />

However, at the end of the day, we have to remember that it’s all about<br />

results. You want to be teamed up with a person who can deliver the<br />

goods year in, year out. In other words, if your fi nancial adviser, broker<br />

or bank’s advice has helped you to beat the market over the long-term,<br />

you’ve found yourself an outstanding contact. But if he or she has not<br />
