Meter boxes shall be kept out of pedestrian walkways and out of driveway areas. For<br />

shopping centers, Developer's Engineer shall give special consideration to meter layout so<br />

as to satisfy these requirements. Final approval of meter location will be by the<br />

Department.<br />

Once a service connection is made to <strong>Martin</strong> <strong>County</strong> Utilities’ water system, disconnection<br />

from the water system is prohibited.<br />

14. Locator For Water Pipe<br />

On all pipe <strong>construction</strong> 8 gauge, THWN insulated, stranded copper wire shall be laid and<br />

secured on top of pipe. Wire shall be continuous from valve box to valve box, wrapped two<br />

times around each joint of pipe and extended inside each wire box to enable location<br />

devices to be attached without digging up the valve box (see Standard Details).<br />

Service wire shall be laid in the trench with all services, connected to the main wire and<br />

wrapped around the service piping or tubing. Wire for potable water shall be blue in color.<br />

All wire connections shall be made with Dri-Splice wire connectors, Imperial Snip-Snap<br />

fittings filled with waterproof silicone sealant or approved equal. All splices shall be<br />

inspected by the Department before burial.<br />

15. Cleaning and Pigging<br />

After its installation, the complete water system (including all mains, services, hydrants,<br />

blow-offs, air release valves and all other appurtenances) shall be thoroughly cleaned to<br />

remove all foreign matter. The Department shall be notified at least 48 hours in advance of<br />

any cleaning activities. Failure to provide advance notification of cleaning may result in the<br />

Contractor not being allowed to clean the mains. Water used for filling and cleaning shall<br />

be from an approved potable water source.<br />

The cleaning of piping systems shall be accomplished by the controlled and pressurized<br />

passage through the system of a series of hydraulic or pneumatic polyurethane plugs. A<br />

poly pigging plan shall be approved by the Department and all pigging of lines shall be<br />

witnessed by a representative of the Department. The poly pigs shall be removed or<br />

discharged from the system at a point as near to the end of the system as is logistically and<br />

mechanically feasible. The contractor must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the<br />
