for sizes 12” diameter through 16” and 6 tie rods per joint for sizes 18” through<br />
24”.<br />
F) Air relief valves shall be at the <strong>design</strong> high points. Installation of air release<br />
valves to correct high points caused by improper installation of pipe (not at<br />
<strong>design</strong> grade) will not be permitted. (See Section XIV approved product list.)<br />
G) All pipe shall be laid to line in a clean dry trench on line and grade with valves<br />
plumb. All pipe shall have a <strong>minimum</strong> cover of 30 inches and a maximum<br />
cover of 48 inches unless otherwise noted on the plans or required by permit.<br />
H) The trench at the top of the pipe shall be kept to a maximum width of 24 inches<br />
plus the pipe diameter. The trench shall have a flat bottom, cut true and even,<br />
so that the barrel of the pipe shall bear its full length. Pipe bells will be placed<br />
in small pockets specifically excavated to receive the bell. All excavations must<br />
be in compliance with OSHA regulations.<br />
I) No rocks larger than 2 inches in diameter or other items that may damage the<br />
pipe will be permitted over the pipe. In the event pipe is installed in rock<br />
excavation, 6 inches of granular material will be provided for bedding under the<br />
pipe. All pipe joints, thrust blocks, conflicts and service connections shall be<br />
left exposed until visually inspected and approved by a Department<br />
representative.<br />
J) All tapping assemblies installed on existing reclaimed mains shall be pressure<br />
tested and witnessed by a Department’s representative prior to the actual tap<br />
of the main. The pipe coupon shall be carefully preserved and submitted to the<br />
Authority’s representative. All tapping sleeves shall be installed a <strong>minimum</strong> of<br />
18 inches from pipe joints.<br />
K) All field cuts on pipe shall require careful repair of the particular lining damaged<br />
in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.<br />
16. Metering Facility for Bulk Users<br />
Bulk users of reclaimed water which have a contractual obligation with the Department for<br />
the use of reclaimed water, shall construct a metering facility in conformance with this<br />
section and all applicable details. The metering facility shall consist of an above grade<br />
meter, control valve, control panel, telemetry system, remote reservoir level indicating<br />
device, and electrical service with distribution load center and service isolation. The<br />
requirements for each stations instrumentation and controls may vary with its location in the<br />
reuse system. Therefore, system integration of all control devices and instrumentation<br />
shall be provided by the SCADA system <strong>design</strong>er “DCR Engineering Services, Inc.”<br />
All reclaimed water storage ponds should include a device to provide aeration to the pond<br />
allowing the pond to have self-purification capabilities. In addition, all reuse storage ponds<br />
shall include a staff gauge that is readable by MCU staff from the shoreline and indicates<br />
