Prevention is the best way to prevent your flock from getting a virus and the old axiom "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", seems to have some bearing on prevention. Virkon S is independently proven effective against not only bacterial diseases, but more importantly, a powerful prevention from Viruses. It is important that you clean surfaces as well as you can, especially floors, before using Virkon S. Uses include solid flat surface and includes perches, walls, incubators and as a dip disinfectant. Kills pathogens ten time faster. Directions are: Powder - 1/3 ounce per gallon of water . A great idea to prevent spreading disease from loft to loft is to create a foot bath pan next to the entrance Usage the same directions for the Virkon S bucket. Spray the loft with Virkon S and my birds are on apple cider vinegar, 1 t. per gallon from the time the season stops until the next season starts. I put one of my friends on this program, his birds were dying 1 or 2 a day. I cleaned his coop, put sulfer and sand down, in 2 days no more birds died and he hasn't lost one since. Also, go in your loft at night, once or twice a week, spray the Oxine directly on the birds. That seemed to stop the virus dead in its tracks. Maybe it will help. It's worth a try.
