Summer may be nearing its end but Australia's credit card deals are really starting to heat
up, with up to 150,000 bonus Qantas Points to be had from a single card application, and
over one million bonus frequent flyer points on the table from these offers alone.
Take a peek at this month's top offers from American Express, ANZ, Bank of Melbourne,
BankSA, Citibank, HSBC, NAB, Qantas Money, St. George and Westpac.
1. American Express Platinum charge cards
Taking out the Gold this month – or, should that be Platinum – the American Express
Platinum Business Card 's huge offer 150,000 bonus Qantas Points for new AMEX
customers who apply by March 29 2018, pay a $1,500 annual fee and spend at least $5,000
on everyday business expenses within the first three months.
You'll first earn that bonus in the form of 150,000 Membership Rewards Ascent Premium
points, which you can later convert into Qantas Points at a 1:1 rate – but, if you don't own
your own business, you won't miss out entirely: AMEX's Platinum Charge Card , essentially
the personal version of the same card, also has an offer of 80,000 bonus Qantas Points .
As with the business card, personal spenders will earn that bounty as 80,000 Ascent
Premium points, provided they pay a $1,200 annual fee and spend $1,500 on purchases
within the first three months, and can also earn up to three Ascent Premium points (three
Qantas Points) per $1 spent, with business cardholders earning up to two points per dollar
spent .
2. Qantas AMEX Ultimate, AMEX Qantas Business Rewards, NAB Qantas Rewards
Signature
Next in line with 100,000 bonus Qantas Points are the Qantas AMEX Ultimate , AMEX
Qantas Business Rewards and NAB Qantas Rewards Visa Signature credit cards, with the
following offers.
On the Qantas AMEX Ultimate credit card , you'll need to apply by April 9 2018, spend
$3,000 on purchases within the first three months and pay a $450 annual fee, but which is
offset by the inclusion of a $450 Qantas Travel Credit (flight voucher) every year, and an
earn rate of 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on most transactions.
Business owners could instead apply for the AMEX Qantas Business Rewards card by
March 29 2018, spend at least $3,000 on purchases within two months of card approval and
pay an annual fee of $450 to earn the same bonus, while also collecting up to 1.25 Qantas
Points per dollar spent on everyday business buys.
Over at NAB, you'd need to apply by February 25 2018, pay a $395 annual fee and spend
$3,000 on everyday purchases within 60 days of account opening. You can also earn up to
one Qantas Point per $1 spent on the card up to $5,000 per month, but the earn rate drops
on further spend.
3. St. George Amplify Signature Visa credit card
Add 90,000 bonus Qantas Points to your frequent flyer balance with the St. George Amplify
Signature Visa credit card when you apply by April 18 2018, spend $5,000 on purchases
within 90 days of card approval and pay a $279 annual fee, while also earning up to 0.825
Qantas Points per $1 spent.
That’s achieved when choosing ‘Amplify Qantas’ as your loyalty option, as you’ll initially
collect 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent, plus a 10% ‘birthday bonus’ in the month of your
birthday on all the points you’ve earned on the card over the past year, except for the signup
offer.
The same bonus deal and earn rates also apply to the near-identical Bank of Melbourne
Amplify Signature Visa and the BankSA Amplify Signature Visa credit cards, which, like St.
George, are all subsidiaries of Westpac.
4. ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa, Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard
Tempting with bonus offers of 75,000 Qantas Points are the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa
and the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard – but again, how you'll earn those points
depends on which card you choose.
ANZ's deal includes no annual fee in the first year (a $425 saving), with those bonus points
delivered when you apply and spend $2,500 on eligible purchases within the first three
months. Everyday spend also earns one Qantas Point per $1 spent up to $7,500 per month,
after which the earn rate reduces to 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent.
Qantas' Premier Platinum card instead offers a reduced annual fee of $149 in the first year
($299 thereafter) and that same helping of bonus points when you apply by March 31 2018
and spend $3,000 or more on purchases within 90 days of card approval.
