Hedgehogs still want old currency
THE Hedgehogs are still on the search for old and foreign coins, which they can turn into
funds and put towards ‘Helping Local People in Need’.
Since the start of the search just over a year ago, the Farnham-based charity has already
raised over £2,500.
Collection buckets are situated in Barclays, Lloyds Bank and NatWest Bank, The Herald
office in West Street, The Bourne Stores and Michael Humphries Butchers in Rowledge.
Howard Warner, collections co-ordinator at The Hedgehogs, estimates that he has sorted
through over 100 kilos of coins and notes from around 100 countries, some of which are no
longer in existence.
Everything that has been donated has been recycled and sold mainly to dealers, although
some has been exchanged at foreign banks and old British currency sold in bulk to metal
dealers.
People can donate old British pre-decimal coins, European pre-euro coins, notes and coins
from any country whether still in circulation or not.
The Hedgehogs would like to thank Farnham for its support, but urges people to keep up
the search.
