Bungling thieves failed to getaway with any cash despite ramming a bank with a forklift truck
and trying to rip a cash machine out the wall.
Three men were spotted using a green forklift truck to smash their way in to a Lloyd’s Bank
branch, Bishop’s Waltham, near Southampton. After causing considerable damage to the
bank and failing to remove the cash machine they they ran away.
Police investigating the burglary said the crime happened at 3am.
A forensics team was sent to the scene and they inspected the forklift and remains of the
cash machine.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire Police said: ‘We are investigating a burglary at Lloyds Bank
‘The ATM was removed but left on the pavement intact, while the forklift was also left at the
scene blocking the road. ‘The men left the scene on foot, no cash was taken by the men.’
Local residents were stunned when they woke up to discover the aftermath of the burglary.
Kayleigh Mills, 28, said: ‘This is such a quiet place I think everyone is shocked to wake up to
this.
‘It seems odd they would target this bank right in the middle of the square.’
