จบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาโทด้าน Architecture &
Urban Design จาก Columbia University และ
ปริญญาตรี 2 ใบ ด้านสถาปัตยกรรม และ Environmental
Design จาก University of Minnesota
ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา รวมถึงมีประสบการณ์การทงาน
ด้าน Urban Design ในต่างประเทศทั้งจีน เวียดนาม
และไนจีเรีย

บทบาทท้าทายบนเวทีสากล
เขาทิ้งท้ายว่า การเป็นสถาปนิกคือวิชาชีพที่ หลอม
รวมกันระหว่าง Design และ Construction ดังนั้น
สถาปนิกต้องเป็นผู้น และรู้ทุกกระบวนการ ของการ
ออกแบบ ตลอดจนการมองภาพรวมการบริหารบริษัท
ด้านสถาปนิก เป็นเรื่องน่าเสียดายที่ 20 เปอร์เซ็นต์ของ
นักเรียนสถาปนิกเรียนจบมาและยังคงเดินในเส้นทาง
สายนี้อีก 80 เปอร์เซ็นต์ มักหันไปทธุรกิจหรือสาย
งานอื่น หากทให้วิชาชีพสถาปนิกยืนหยัดได้ ต้องการ
มีส่งเสริมทั้งเชิงความรู้และจุดยืนของวิชาชีพ
In the talk with Mr. Sathirat Tantanan, the chairman
of ARCASIA, about his another pride of Honorary Fellowship
of the American Institute of Architects (Hon. FAIA) which
will be granted by American Architects Institute in June
2018, he told about the fun and challenging
experience of the path of his career.
พูดคุยกับคุยคุณสถิรัตร์ตัณฑนันทน์ประธานสมาพันธ์
สถาปนิกแห่งเอเชีย กับอีกหนึ่งความภาคภูมิใจในการเข้า
รับรางวัลกิตติมศักดิ์Honorary Fellowship of the American
Institute of Architects (Hon. FAIA) จากสถาบันสถาปนิก
อเมริกัน ในเดือนมิถุนายน 2561
คุณสถิรัตร์ชวน ย้อนไปยังเส้นทางการทำ
งานในการเป็นสถาปนิกผ่านความสนุกและความท้าทาย
ไปสู่การทำงานบนเวทีระดับสากล
สู่เส้นทางสถาปนิกบนเวทีแห่งเอเชีย
จุดเริ่มต้นของเส้นทางทั้งหมด ผมเริ่มต้นที่นี่ สมาคม
สถาปนิกสยาม ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ ผมเป็นอุปนายก
สมาคม ในยุคของคุณนิธิสถาปิตานนท์เป็นนายกสมาคมฯ
(พ.ศ.2535 – 2537) บทบาทหลักของผมคือดูแลในส่วนต่าง
ประเทศ ในยุคนั้นนายกสมาคมฯ มีวิสัยทัศน์ว่า อยากให้
สมาคมฯ มีส่วนร่วมกับสมาคมสถาปนิกในประเทศอื่นๆ
ต่อยอดจากปีที่ผ่านๆ มา จนกระทั่งมาสู่ยุคของนายกสมาคมฯ
คุณทวีจิตร จันทรสาขา ได้ผลักดันให้ผมเข้ามาดูแลในส่วน
Tri Nations ทำงานร่วมกัน 3 สมาคม คือ สมาคมสถาปนิกสยามฯ
สมาคมสถาปนิกสิงคโปร์และสมาคมสถาปนิกมาเลเซีย โดย
มีการแลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลด้านวิชาการวิชาชีพ ปัจจุบันได้ต่อย
อดมาเป็น Four Nations โดยมีอินโดนีเซียเข้ามาร่วมด้วย
และในยุคของคุณทวีจิตรนั่นเอง ที่มีนโยบายผลักดัน
การทำงานร่วมกับต่างประเทศ และผมได้เข้ามามีบทบาท
เป็นรองประธานของสมาพันธ์สถาปนิกแห่งเอเชีย(ARCASIA)
และในขณะเดียวกันเราก็มองว่าในบทบาทของ ARCASIA
คำตอบคือเราดำเนินงานค่อนข้างดีในด้านการพัฒนาชุมชน
ในประเทศ รวมไปถึงการผลักดันแนวคิด Universal Design
การออกแบบอาคารต่างๆ ที่เอื้อต่อการใช้งานของประชาชน
ดังนั้นเราจึงก่อตั้งคณะกรรมการขึ้นมาเป็นหน่วยย่อย คือ
ACSA : ARCASIA Committee on Social Responsibility
และเป็นการต่อยอดโครงการเพื่อสังคมด้านต่างๆ ของสมาคม
สถาปนิกสยามฯ (ASA) บนเวทีสากล
คนไทยคนแรกในตแหน่งประธานสภาสถาปนิก
เอเชีย
ต่อมาเมื่อมีโอกาสได้เข้ามาเป็นประธานสมาพันธ์
สถาปนิกแห่งเอเชีย ผมได้วางเป้าหมายการพัฒนา 2 ส่วน
นั่นคือ Professional practice เพราะว่าเศรษฐกิจในเอเชีย
กำลังพัฒนา การผลักดันให้สถาปนิกทำงานในระดับสากล
มากขึ้นถือเป็นสิ่งสำคัญ และข้อสอง ผมอยากผลักดัน
สถาปนิกรุ่นใหม่เราต้องมีเวทีให้เขา ผมจึงตั้งคณะกรรมการ
อีกหนึ่งกลุ่ม คือ ACYA : ARCASIA Committee on Young
Architect โดยสนับสนุนทั้งการให้ทุนการศึกษา ประกวด
แนวคิดการออกแบบ รวมไปถึงการเปิดกว้างให้สถาปนิก
รุ่นใหม่ได้เรียนรู้ โดยเดินทางไปศึกษาโครงการในประเทศ
อื่นๆ แต่ละประเทศก็จะมีหัวข้อการศึกษาที่แตกต่างกัน เช่น
ปีนี้เดินทางไปศึกษาการก่อสร้างด้วยไม้ที่ญี่ปุ่น อีกหนึ่ง
ประเด็นที่สำคัญ ในฐานะที่ผมเป็นประธาน จะทำอย่างไรให้
องค์กรของ 19 ประเทศรวมตัวกันได้มากที่สุด เพื่อพัฒนา
วิชาชีพสถาปนิก
ก้าวสคัญอันทรงเกียรติ
การเข้ารับรางวัลเกียรติคุณ Honorary Fellowship of
the American Institute of Architects (Hon. FAIA) สำหรับผม
แม้ไม่ได้อยู่ในเป้าหมายชีวิต เป็นเส้นทางที่บังเอิญ แต่ก็เป็น
ก้าวสำคัญที่มีคุณค่า ต้องขอขอบคุณคณะกรรมการรวมไป
ถึงพี่เลี้ยงที่คอยผลักดันให้ผมขึ้นมาอยู่จุดนี้ และผู้ที่ให้การ
สนับสนุน ทั้งอาจารย์อัชชพล ดุสิตนานนท์ นายกสมาคม
สถาปนิกสยามฯ และคุณนิธิ สถาปิตานนท์ ที่ให้การรับรอง
ซึ่งรางวัลในปีนี้พบว่ามีผู้ที่ได้รับคัดเลือกเพียง 2 คน คือผม
และอดีตนายกสมาคมสถาปนิกญี่ปุ่น Taro Ashihara จาก
ผู้ลงสมัครทั้งหมด
รางวัลนี้นับเป็นอีกหนึ่งก้าวสำคัญเป็นช่องทางในการ
เปิดประตูและเชื่อมต่อกับสมาคมสถาปนิกชาติอื่นๆ ในการ
ช่วยเหลือพัฒนาซึ่งกันและกัน และผมคิดว่าผมจะใช้โอกาส
ตรงนี้ให้เป็นประโยชน์มากที่สุดในการไปเปิดเวทีต่างๆ ทั้ง
ในเอเชียและอเมริกา เพื ่อส่งเสริมสถาปนิกรุ่นใหม่และนำ
ความเป็นมาตรฐานสากลร่วมส่งเสริมความรู้ในด้านทฤษฎี
และปฏิบัติแก่สมาชิก และส่งเสริมจุดยืนของวิชาชีพ

On the path to the stage of ASEAN
architects
The beginning of my journey started here, at The
Associates of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage.
I was the vice president while Mr. Nithi Satapitanont
being the president (1992-1994). My main role was to
take care of international activities. At that time, the
president aimed to lead ASA to have more participation
with architects associations from other countries. Then
in the term of Mr. Taweejit Jantarasaka as the president,
I was put to work in “Tri Nations” project which is the
collaboration between architects associations from
Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. Now it is “Four Nations”
as Indonesia has joined in.
With the policy on international events of ASA in
Mr. Taweejit’s term, I was elected to be the vice president
of the ARCASIA. The outstanding role of ASA in ARCASIA
was about developing communities in our country and
driving the idea of Universal Design to comfort people
in various kinds of buildings. So we have set up ACSA:
ARCASIA Committee on Social Responsibility to continue
ASA’s social responsibility on the international stage.
The first Thai architect as the president
of ARCASIA
Later when I had a chance to be the president of
ARCASIA, I planned to develop 2 parts. The first is about
Professional Practice because the economy in ASEAN
is growing so we have to push our architects to have
more international works. The second is to give young
architects more opportunities to show their ability, so I
set up ACYA: ARCASIA Committee on Young Architect.
The project supports young architects on scholarship,
idea competitions and abroad field trips. The field trip
in this year is to study wood construction in Japan. As
the president, another important duty is to connect all
associations from 19 countries for collaboration on
developing the architectural industry.
The important honored step
To be granted the Honorary Fellowship of the American
Institute of Architects (Hon. FAIA) is unexpected but it
is my honored. I would like to thank the board and all
supporters including Prof. Atchapol Dusittanont and
Mr.Nithi Satapitanont who recommended me. There are
only 2 winners this year, one is myself and another is
Mr. Taro Ashihara, the ex-president of Japanese architects
association.
This award is another big step to open and connect
with architects associations from other countries to help
develop each other. This will be a good opportunity for
Thai architects to step up on the international stage.
I would like to use this opportunity to support our young
architects, to bring the international standard for elevating
theoretical and practical knowledge for members, and
to support the ground of architectural career universally.
Mr. Sathirat Tantanant is the
first Thai architect who took a position of
the president of ARCASIA. He is also the
executive director of Thevanant Co.Ltd. He
graduated Master Degree of Architecture
& Urban Design from Columbia University, 2
diplomas of Architectural and Environmental
Design from University of Minnesota, USA.
He also has experience of Urban Design
work in China, Vietnam, and Nigeria.
He said, “Architect is the career which
works with the collaboration of designing
and construction. Architects must be the
leaders and know every procedure of the
design and also have the overall vision of
business running. It is a pity that only 20%
of architect students graduate and continue
their career as architects, while 80% turn
to earn their lives on different careers. If
we want architectural career to be insistent,
there should be more supporting on both
knowledge and the career standpoint.
